If you are anything like our family there is always a battle over who gets to set the thermostat. Oftentimes covert operations take place to adjust the thermostat a couple of degrees before the counterstrike sets it back. But is that really making that big of a difference when it comes to your heating bill as we all try to stay comfortable this fall? Not a lot but we do have a handful of smart thermostat tips to help cut heating costs and keep you and your family warm this fall!
1:Be Strategic! The Department of energy recommends keeping your home at 68 degrees when home and awake and at night lowering it by 7-10 degrees. Taking this measure can cut your heating costs by up to 10% annually.
2: Programmable Thermostats are difference makers! All modern thermostats can be programmed to ensure your home is comfortable when you are there and when you are away for the day it can be programmed to a lower setting saving you money and your unit will be working less.
3: Avoid Heat Blasts! If you think increasing the temperature to 80 will quickly heat your home then you are mistaken. It will only waste energy so be patient and let your system warm up at its own pace.
4: Let the Sun Shine! When the sun is beaming, open up your blinds and let that natural light heat your home! Just be sure to close them when the sun goes down to insulate against the cold.
Being smart with your thermostat will make all the difference as we head into the cold season. Visit us at Mrsmichael.com/HVAC for more information or call!
