With the NFL kicking off this week, families across Michigan will be cheering on the Lions. As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, our team of award-winning plumbers wanted to give you some plumbing tips to keep your home safe—because we think taking risks like going for it on 4th and 4 should be best kept on the football field, not at home.
Drain and Disconnect Outdoor Fixtures
While we still have some time before the 4th quarter freezing temperatures arrive, it’s best to disconnect and drain fixtures that may no longer be in use.
Insulate Vulnerable Pipes
We encourage homeowners to take this proactive approach, which is much easier to do in the fall than in the winter. Insulating your pipes now will reduce the risk of bursts once the bitter cold returns.
Test Your Sump Pump
While we hope the Lions make it rain touchdowns, we’re also aware Michigan may see plenty of showers this fall! Ensure your sump pump is ready by pouring a bucket of water down your crock to confirm it’s working properly.
Service Your Water Heater
Sediment and dirt can cause havoc in your water heater—just like Aidan Hutchinson causes havoc for offensive linemen. If you haven’t had a water heater flush this year, do it now! It can be the difference between a 3-and-out and a touchdown drive.
Check for Leaks
If you know of a leak, it’s better to be proactive and swap out that plumbing system for an upgrade. Taking action early is the difference between an underperforming regular season and a postseason run!
